Bristol Food Connections festival

Bristol Food Connections brings a diverse range of delicious food to the city.

Working around the theme of ‘Time’, the events in this year’s festival encourage us to think about how time influences the food we eat and when we eat it.

Hearts phones

Bristol Food Connections has more than 100 events happening this week across the city with some really interesting ones located near us. Here’s a selection in our area to whet your appetite, but do check the website for the full list.

A Picnic Through Time in Southmead

Head to the Greenway Centre, Doncaster Road, Southmead on Thursday for A Picnic Through Time that features dishes that would have been cooked and shared by the community from the 1930s to the present day. It starts at 3pm and is open to all.

Afternoon Tea Bake-Off

Get a feel of what it must be like inside that famous tent by joining The Brandon Trust on Friday as the people that the trust supports have their Afternoon Tea Bake-Off entries judged. And unlike the real Bake-Off, you’ll be able to taste the creations! It starts at 11am at Saint Stephen’s Church BS1 1EQ.

Behind the scenes at a gin distillery

If gin is your tipple of choice, head to 6 O’Clock Gin in Thornbury on Saturday for a fascinating insight into how gin is made and a chance to get up close to the botanicals that give gin its distinctive flavour. It goes without saying that samples will be available. You’ll need to book tickets for this one – click the link above.

Foraging on Father’s Day

It’s Father’s Day on Sunday and a perfect way to celebrate would be to head to Blaise Castle to join their foraging walk. You’ll learn which plants you can eat and which you should avoid as well as some interesting folk lore that surrounds so many wild edibles. After the walk, you’ll get to taste some food made from foraged ingredients in The Blaise Community Garden. Meet at the Main Car Park at 10.30am.
